چکیده

The Steiner tree problem is to find a shortest subgraph that spans a given set of vertices in a graph. This problem is known to be NP-hard and it is well known that a polynomial time 2-approximation algorithm exists. In 1996 Zelikovsky [11] suggested an approximation algorithm for the Steiner tree problem that is called the relative greedy algorithm. Till today the performance ratio of this algorithm is not known. Zelikovsky provided 1.694 as an upper bound and Gröpl, Hougardy, Nierhoff and Prömel [6] proved that 1.333 is a lower bound. In this paper we improve the lower bound for the performance ratio of the relative greedy algorithm to 1.385.

Improved Methods for Approximating Node Weighted Steiner Trees and Connected Dominating Sets

A greedy approximation algorithm based on \spider decompositions" was developed by Klein and Ravi for node weighted Steiner trees. This algorithm provides a worst case approximation ratio of 2 lnk, where k is the number of terminals. However, the best known lower bound on the approximation ratio is lnk, assuming that NP 6 DTIME[n ], by a reduction from set cover [9, 4]. We show that for the unw...

Approximation Algorithms for Facility Location with Capacitated and Length-Bounded Tree Connections

We consider a generalization of the uncapacitated facility location problem that occurs in planning of optical access networks in telecommunications. Clients are connected to open facilities via depthbounded trees. The total demand of clients served by a tree must not exceed a given tree capacity. We investigate a framework for combining facility location algorithms with a tree-based clustering...

Approximating Minimum Spanning Sets in Hypergraphs and Polymatroids

Abstract. We present a new analysis of the greedy algorithm for the problem of finding a minimum spanning subset in -polymatroids. This algorithm has a performance ratio of approximately , which is best possible for large . A consequence of this algorithm is a polynomial time approximation algorithm with approximation ratio for finding minimum weight spanning subhypergraphs in -restricted hyper...

Concatenation - Based Greedy Heuristics for the Euclidean

We present a class of O(n log n) heuristics for the Steiner tree problem in the Euclidean plane. These heuristics identify a small number of subsets with few, geometrically close, terminals using minimum spanning trees and other well-known structures from computational geometry: De-launay triangulations, Gabriel graphs, relative neighbourhood graphs, and higher-order Voronoi diagrams. On the Competitiveness of the Online Asymmetric and Euclidean Steiner Tree Problems

This paper addresses the competitiveness of online algorithmsfor two Steiner Tree problems. In the online setting, requests for k ter-minals appear sequentially, and the algorithm must maintain a feasible, incremental solution at all times. In the first problem, the underlyinggraph is directed and has bounded asymmetry, namely the maximumweight of antiparallel links in the gr...
